Cranleigh opens its gates at 7:20am on our Pre-Prep campus and at 7:15am on our Prep and Senior campus. Lessons start at 8:00am. From Year 3 to Year 6 the day is organised into 40-minute blocks of time to allow for transition whilst enabling several lesson lengths appropriate to subjects and age-related learning activities. This also allows for double periods (where appropriate) providing the opportunity for students to remain focused to maximise progress. For Year 7 to Year 13, most lessons are 80 minutes. This increase in time allows the teaching team to plan learning experiences and activities that give the opportunity for topics to be covered in greater depth maximising progress in each lesson. This will be achieved through active learning approaches, collaboration and variety of task in each lesson.
Below is a more detailed breakdown of the school day for the different Year Groups.
The school day finishes at 14:30 with pick-up for parents between 14:30- 14:55 (Monday to Thursday) and 12.00-12.30 on Fridays.
Children in FS2 have the opportunity to participate in paid Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) twice a week and children in Years 1 and 2 can participate in a range of CCAs on three days of the week. Many of these are provided by Cranleigh staff with others being offered by external providers. All CCAs run between 15:00 - 16:00.
The end of the academic day for the Prep and Senior School is 15:40. Pupils in Year 3 and above then have the option to take part in an extensive programme of Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) Monday - Thursday from 15:45 - 16:45. On Fridays, all pupils in the Prep and Senior School are collected at 12:00 and there are no organised CCAs.
Each day at Cranleigh is designed to keep pupils engaged, with core subjects taught alongside the arts, co-curricular activities and sport.
