From the ages of 3 to 7 pupils are based in the Pre-Prep which comprises of FS1, FS2, Year 1 and Year 2. The classrooms, indoor and outdoor learning spaces are purpose-built, spacious and well-equipped with a wide range of learning materials available to challenge the children.
In addition, the children are also able to make use of facilities such as our Swimming Pool, Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, Adventure Play Deck, Art and DT Hub, Cookery Room and Innovation Hub.
Throughout the Pre-Prep class sizes are small and each has a well-qualified and experienced classroom teacher supported by a teaching assistant. We provide the children in the Pre-Prep with a broad and balanced curriculum with valuable experience-based learning opportunities and a structured learning environment. This allows each child to be nurtured and to develop at their own pace. In a supportive, caring, secure, happy and creative environment, they develop in line with our ethos, to fulfil their potential.
In FS1 we provide a healthy balance between free play and a more teacher-directed, structured approach to learning through play and engendering curiosity within each child. Under the framework of the UK Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which sets the standards for the learning, development and care, children are empowered to be confident and independent. The concept of respect for themselves and for others is instilled and reinforced through carefully planned social-skills development. In FS2 the children continue to learn within this programme which covers seven main areas:
In Year 1 and 2 the curriculum continues to involve activity and investigation to enable pupils to think for themselves and to solve problems. Whilst drawing from the curriculum objectives of the UK National Curriculum, our lessons and activities offer a wide range of relevant experiences and learning opportunities while embedding core values such as kindness, respect, responsibility and collaboration. The Year 1 and 2 curriculum introduces the pupils to the full range of academic subjects taught as standalone lessons but with a cross-curricular approach through topics. This includes the core subjects of Maths, English and Science alongside Humanities (Geography and History), Computing, Art and Design Technology and Personal, Social and Health Education.
This well-rounded curriculum is further complemented by specialist teaching in PE , Swimming and Music in all year groups. Children are introduced to Arabic in FS1 and their learning develops as they move through the Pre-Prep year groups until Year 2 when the ADEK curriculum for Arabic (Native and Non-Native), Social Studies and Islamic (for Muslim children), is fully implemented.
Everything we do in Pre-Prep is underpinned by our Skills Curriculum which introduces children to lifelong skills such as problem solving, team-work, critical thinking and independence. Skills are vital in developing young citizens of the future and will be further built upon as Pre-Prep children move into the Prep School.
