Arabic Week

Thank you to the Arabic Department, Kinda Abouchakra and Imen Masmoudi for sharing their experiences during Arabic Week 2019 at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi:

Arabic Week at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi is a milestone in our school year. It is a wonderful opportunity for all students to get involved in a number of enjoyable activities throughout the school. As you looked around the school, you felt the pulse of Arabic everywhere, just as you feel your blood pulsing through your body. The walls of Cranleigh were decorated in drawings and stunning paintings of Arabic Calligraphy, for visitors and students to admire. Sometimes eagerly overlapping, and sometimes revealing a hidden deeper meaning that the Arabic calligraphy portrays on glass and paper. You didn’t have to go too far to hear the tune of Arabic music. Consumed by the ears of its audience, and amazing those who are not used to hearing it. You couldn’t pass by the school hallways without the splendid smell of Arabic coffee to wake you up and invite you in to this Arabic tradition. In all the activities, the students both native and non-native speakers met in their love to practice the activities of Arabic Week and to witness the harmonious integration of different cultures.  Those moments when the values of tolerance and the authenticity of the Arabic language meet, is summed up in a single phrase “Cranleigh reads with Arabic eyes”.

يمثل أسبوع اللغة العربية في مدرسة كرانلي نقطة بارزة في استعراض أهم الأنشطة المحفزة للطلبة من ناحية والداعمة لهم لغويا من ناحية أخرى . فما إن تنظر في أرجاء المدرسة حتى ترى نبض اللغة العربية في كل مكان ، فتجد الرسومات تزين الجدران ، و اللوحات تقدم نفسها للناظرين ، وتستوقفهم انحناءات الخط العربي تارة بشغف التداخلات ، و تارة أخرى بما يعنيه ذلك الوشم العربي الذي حطّ على الزجاج و الورق… و ليس ببعيد عن ذلك نغم الموسيقى العربية التي تألفها أسماع متذوقيها ، وتدهش من لم يعتد على سماعها . و لا يمكن أن تمر دون أن تستوقفك رائحة القهوة العربية لتحييك ، وتدعوك الأصالة العربية لتذوق روعة الطعام من ناحية ، وتطويع الحلوى الغربية برسوم عربية معبرة من ناحية أخرى. و في مجمل الأنشطة يلتقي الطلبة الناطقين و غير الناطقين في حبهم لممارسة أنشطة أسبوع اللغة العربية لتشهد امتزاج الثقافات المتنوعة بصورة متناغمة ..هي تلك اللحظات التي تلتقي فيها قيم التسامح و أصالة اللغة العربية في لوحة غناء يمكنك أن تطلق عليها”كرانلي تقرأ بعيون عربية”
